Autocar has beefed up the engine options available for its Xpeditor line of low-cab-over engine (LCOE) vehicles.

The 2004 model-year Xpeditor WX, WXR and WXLL chassis can now be equipped with a full range of 7- to 11-liter diesel engines from both Caterpillar and Cummins.

The Caterpillar C-10 diesel fuel “bridge” engine rated at 305 hp. with 1050 lb.-ft. of torque, and its C-10 dual-fuel compatriot (powered by a combination of natural gas and diesel), will be available on Xpeditor WX models beginning in June, and in the WXR in July.

The “bridge” label means the C-10 does not fully comply with the strict new emission requirements that went into effect on Oct. 1 last year.

Specially engineered V-rated engines from Cummins include the ISM-EGR 285V in ratings of 285 hp. with 1050 lb.-ft. of torque, and the ISM-EGR 320V in ratings of 320 hp. with 1150 lb.-ft. of torque. Both of those engines will be available in the Xpeditor WXLL model in May, the WX in June, and the WXR in July of this year.

Autocar has relocated both its headquarters and the manufacturing facility for its Xpeditor line from Union City, IN, to nearby Hagerstown, IN. Autocar is a division of Highland Park, IL-based Grand Vehicle Works Holdings (GVWH), which also owns step-van maker Workhorse Custom Chassis. GVWH purchased the Autocar name and the Xpeditor truck line from Volvo Trucks North America in July 2001.
