Martin W. Larson has been appointed CIO and vp, e-commerce for longhaul carrier Consolidated Freightways (CF). Larson will lead all IT and e-commerce functions at CF and will direct the company's ongoing IT development while integrating IT strategies into its business model and business practices.
In April, Larson was named one of the nation's "Premier 100 IT Leaders" by Computerworld, an award-winning information services company serving the IT community. The list recognizes individuals who redefine their work environment, business strategy and culture through innovative use of information technology.

In his previous position as vp of e-commerce and marketing technology, Larson was responsible for developing practical web-based IT applications designed to benefit CF customers. Last year, Larson's team launched www.cf.com, a web site designed for CF's 155,000 core customers, most of whom are long-haul shippers. The web site includes innovative eBusiness tools that allow customers to conduct business in a self-service environment.

Larson began his career at CF in 1982 as a sales executive with the company's air freight division. He has managed terminal operations and sales for CF at several hub locations. He joined CF's corporate IT group when the team was formed ten years ago to manage strategic customer support. He was later charged with deploying marketing technology to CF's core customers.
