The Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS) is expected to announce within the next few weeks new entry requirements for "landed" immigrants attempting to enter the U.S. from Canada.

According to the Truckload Carriers Assn. (TCA), the new requirements will affect landed-immigrant truck drivers.

All landed-immigrants seeking entry to the U.S. from Canada, except those from countries participating in INS's Visa Waiver Program, will be required to have a passport from their country of origin and a visa in order to enter the U.S.

TCA suggests that fleet managers make sure their drivers have passports from their country of citizenship. The association also said drivers should inform their managers if there is a reason they cannot obtain a visa.

In addition to the new requirements, INS has begun fingerprinting Canadian-based truck drivers born in countries deemed "state sponsors of terrorism," including Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, Syria and Cuba.
