Diesel up two cents

The average price for a gallon of diesel rose two cents to $2.918 for the week ending July 9, according to the Energy Information Administration. Recent record high crude oil prices last week will get passed onto retail prices in the week ahead, which will harden prices.

The biggest price jump was in the Midwest region, up 3.2 cents to $2.919. Not all regions saw price increases: the region that needed a price break most—California—saw a modest 0.6-cent slide to $3.113. California was still the most expensive region in which to buy diesel in spite of this. The cheapest diesel can be found at the Lower Atlantic region at $2.849 after a 1.5-cent hike.
