Dave Ronnenberg, president of CR&R, a Southern California waste-management firm, recently purchased 39 Autocar Xpeditors. He says the decision was difficult, with two “outstanding” manufacturers to choose from. Deciding factor turned out to be the people involved. “All the folks we met from Autocar were skilled, enthusiastic…and seemed genuinely interested in our success with their product,” says Ronnenberg. “They put a lot of extra effort and added value into their offer and clearly believed their product was right for us.” Shown at the plant are (left to right) Joe LaSpina, Autocar executive director of sales, Jim Johnston, Autocar president, Dave Ronnenberg, and Tom Vatter, Autocar vp-sales & marketing.

Caroll Benn (center) receives the keys to a spanking new International 9900ix tractor, his reward for being named “Independent Contractor of the Year” by the Truckload Carriers Assn. A truck driver for 35 years, including the last 18 as an owner-operator, Benn has logged over three million miles without an accident or a late delivery. The truck is the 17th International has awarded as sponsor of the TCA contest.

Oshkosh's TerraMax is a self-navigating “robot truck” now in its second generation of design and development. It is intended to eventually see duty in driverless supply convoys, which the U.S. military hopes will be road-worthy by 2015.

“You need to have access to everything, including the kitchen sink — and be able to offer portions of that sink — to serve the trucking industry's needs and desires today.”
Peter Vroom, president, Truck Renting & Leasing Assn.

With roots in rock-and-roll concert logistics of all things, Rock-It Cargo, based in Huntingdon Valley, PA, pretty much does it all — freight forwarding, tour planning, warehousing, insurance, even arranging air charter service for rock stars. And they say they've “applied the knowledge capital gained from moving gigantic concert shows to the freight forwarding needs of heavy industry.” Set that to music!
