Commercial vehicles in New York State without a clearly displayed business name and a DOT number on both sides are subject to tickets and fines starting on July 5, 2005.
The New York State Department of Transportation has issued a new rule requiring businesses operating wholly within the state to display the company’s name and DOT number on both sides of trucks with a GVWR of 18,001 lbs or more by July 5 this year. The lettering for the company’s name and DOT number must contrast sharply with the background color and be readable from 50 feet, the agency said.
Commercial trucks with a GVWR between 10,001 and 18,000 lbs, as well as trucks with trailers that have a gross combination weight rating (GVWR) greater than 10,001 lbs., will be subject to the rule beginning July 5, 2006.
