The state of Pennsylvania has busted a driver’s license scam that also netted 19 suspects accused of obtaining fraudulent commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs).

Mike Fisher, Pennsylvania’s attorney general, said the Pennsylvania state police and bureau of criminal investigation (BCI) agents have filed charges against 56 suspects who allegedly participated in an illegal Pennsylvania driver's license scam. A former licensing examiner within Pennsylvania’s DOT reportedly took bribes of between $150 to $1,000 to provide fraudulent drivers licenses.

That investigation includes federal charges being filed against 19 separate suspects who allegedly obtained fraudulent CDLs from the same examiner. Those charges, filed in late September and early October, are being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s office because it is a federal crime to obtain a fraudulent CDL.
