National diesel prices took a welcome 3.1-cent dip last week to $2.132 per gallon, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said. An EIA economist told Fleet Owner in an earlier interview that he expects diesel prices to continue to decline to “the low two dollar level” in the coming weeks, as a result of unusually high inventories, and low crude prices.
All regions posted a decline in diesel prices with the regions that have the highest prices— the West Coast and California— tying for the biggest drop at 5 cents to $2.274 and $2.336, respectively. The smallest price drop was in the Central Atlantic region, down 1.6 cents to $2.262. California is again the most expensive region for diesel, while the cheapest was in the Gulf Coast, at $2.056.
