The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), which represents over 180,000 bus drivers through 270 local unions across 46 U.S. states and nine Canadian provinces, is trying to locate members affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The ATU said bus drivers affected by the hurricane may get help with job placement and financial assistance by calling ATU toll free at 888-240-1196.

“Hundreds of our members have lost their homes and jobs,” said ATU International president Warren George. “We are going to do everything we can to help them find work, and provide some financial help too.” He noted that, in cooperation with its New Orleans local, the ATU plans to open an office in Baton Rouge, LA, to provide direct, face-to-face assistance to its members.
