    President George W. Bush has nominated Joseph Clapp to be head of DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. A long-time trucking industry veteran, Clapp began his career as a safety officer for Roadway Express, eventually becoming its CEO. He also worked with one of the trucking industry’s largest lobbying groups, the American Trucking Assns., as chairman of the the regular Common Carrier

    President George W. Bush has nominated Joseph Clapp to be head of DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

    A long-time trucking industry veteran, Clapp began his career as a safety officer for Roadway Express, eventually becoming its CEO. He also worked with one of the trucking industry’s largest lobbying groups, the American Trucking Assns., as chairman of the the regular Common Carrier Conference of the ATA Foundation.

    Clapp also served as chairman of the Transportation Research Board of the National Academy of Sciences and was a member of the Federal Highway Research Coordinating Committee.
