CFI’s Schmidt adds CEO to title

Herbert J. Schmidt, president of Joplin, MO-based truckload carrier CFI, has been named CEO in addition to his duties as president of the company

Herbert J. Schmidt, president of Joplin, MO-based truckload carrier CFI, has been named CEO in addition to his duties as president of the company. He takes over the CEO role from Glenn Brown, who became chairman and CEO in 2000. Brown retains his position as chairman, the company noted.

Schmidt joined CFI in 1984, serving as senior vp--sales & marketing, vp--safety, vp--administration, and senior vp--operations. He became president of the company in 2000. Prior to joining CFI, Schmidt worked with United Parcel Service in operations and industrial engineering. He graduated summa cum laude from Missouri Southern State College in 1978.

Founded in 1951, CFI is a privately held carrier that employs 3,000 and operates over 2,300 tractors and 7,300 trailers throughout the U.S. and Canada, interlining with Mexican carriers at various border crossings to provide through-trailer service to Mexico.
