Yellow Freight System has opened a new 192-door distribution center in San Bernardino, Calif., located on 31.7 acres adjacent to a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Intermodal facility.

The new distribution center will enable Yellow to improve service standards by one and two days on many lanes inbound to and outbound from the Los Angeles Basin. The L.A. Basin network consists of service facilities located in Gardena, Los Angeles, Sun Valley, San Diego, Orange County and Santa Fe Springs.

The new distribution center has been in development since mid-1998 with actual construction underway since November 2000. The new center will have approximately 500 employees, mostly drivers and dock professionals, who have transferred from Yellow Freight terminals in Barstow and Fontana, California. Those two facilities have been closed.
