Canada's ETL Électronique Ltd. introduced its light fleet management system to the U.S. marketplace at the recent D/C Expo conference in Chicago. Called Astus, the system is designed for small- to medium-sized businesses with fleets of up to 50 light-duty vehicles.

It is intended to help fleet owners increase productivity, reduce operating costs and easily identify profit losses and track employee data. It features an onboard mini-computer to compile information, an ID keyboard for vehicle security and monitoring and a Windows-based software system.

The onboard computer registers when the engine is turned on or off to calculate time en route and time stopped, as well as average and maximum speed, distance between stops and idle time. The system's electronic keys are designed to assure that only authorized drivers can start the vehicle, and an anti-theft starter disabler device enhances security. Astus is available from distributors for $650, plus installation.
