Esco Equipment Supply Co. has released a new wheel heat indicator label that it said is designed to warn of a possible wheel end, bearing or brake failure condition during inspections.

Hot Wheel is a self-adhesive decal that is attached to the wheel/rim. When the temperature of the wheel reaches 250 deg. F., a temperature-sensitive white arrow changes to a bright orange, indication of an overheated wheel condition. The decal will need to be replaced once the problem has been corrected.

Esco said the product will indicate excess temperature for prolonged periods. It does not, the company stressed, indicate every instance of a wheel end component malfunction.
