International Truck and Engine Corp. announced today that is has partnered with Modern Business Computing, Inc. (MBC) to develop a new software-based fleet maintenance and parts-replenishment system.

Dubbed Diamond Connection Solutions, the system will be distributed through International dealers. According to International, the complete software package was designed around assisting fleet managers to reduce their maintenance costs and better estimate their maintenance needs through the use of a simple product.

The software can track quantities, costs and reorder points of truck parts in inventory based on previous use patterns and ordering information. Using this information, the system works in conjunction with International dealers to provide a dependable just-in-time automatic reordering scheme for parts. Work order information -- which includes parts use and services performed -- enables a fleet manager to track all of his or her mechanics’ work and to keep a complete history of work performed and parts used on each vehicle.

Diamond Connection Solutions also boasts components for PM schedules, core tracking, warranty monitoring, vehicle information, reminders and user security. The package also includes full reporting capabilities to provide customers with detailed and specific data about their fleets, such as total cost summaries and parts use histories.

Optional modules can be purchased to handle purchase order management, fuel use, vehicle logs, tire use, vehicle licensing, reported problems, vehicle parts reference and employee information.

International said its dealers and MBC expect to distribute the software to as many as 3000 customer locations in the next three years.

“Diamond Connection Solutions will change the way fleet managers operate by giving them the tools to properly manage their parts inventories and proactively maintain their vehicles,” said senior software developer Kevin Jessen. “This will decrease truck downtime and increase uptime by limiting breakdowns with proper preventative maintenance scheduling. This can save a company thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.”
