Survey finds trailer tracking important among fleet executives

C.J. Driscoll & Associates has released the results of its survey of 168 fleet executives that measures their interest in trailer tracking and their willingness to pay for such equipment and services.

Of the carriers responding, 60% said they would be willing to pay for trailer monitoring equipment and 70% said they would pay a monthly fee to monitor the location and status of fleet trailers. Many of those who did not indicate a willingness to pay for equipment or services stated that they would have to research the potential return on investment.

Other findings of the report include:

  • trucking fleet operator awareness of most trailer monitoring suppliers is low
  • among the surveyed fleets currently using a trailer monitoring system, the satisfaction level is high (3.7 on a 5-pont scale)
  • 60% of the respondents stated they would be willing to pay a higher price for a trailer monitoring system that monitors untethered trailers and trailers that are hooked to a power unit.
  • The need for untethered trailer monitoring is prevalent among large truckload carriers that drop trailers in customer yards and other locations
