Harold Anderson, president and founder of St. Cloud, MN-based Anderson Trucking Service Inc. (ATS), died Wednesday from complications of pneumonia. He was 85.
Upon returning from World War II, Anderson managed the truck fleet at Cold Spring Granite, and subsequently founded Anderson Trucking Service in 1955. Under his leadership, ATS grew into five distinct businesses: ATS Specialized, ATS Inc., Warren Transport of Waterloo, IA, ATS Logistics and Intermodal Caribbean Express (ICE).
Additionally, he was owner/founder of a number of the businesses, including St. Cloud Truck Sales and Midwest Canvas of St. Cloud, SunBelt Furniture Xpress of Hickory, NC and X-L Specialized Trailers of Oelwein, IA.
Anderson was active in numerous transportation organizations, serving in such capacities as vp at large for the American Trucking Assns. He served on the board of directors for the Truckload Carriers Conference, the Specialized Carriers and Riggers Association, Minnesota Trucking Assn., Central Minnesota Transportation Alliance, and ATA Litigation Center.
