UAW ends strike with Detroit Diesel after tentative labor agreement
The United Auto Workers Union has ended a brief strike that shut down Detroit Diesel’s Redford, MI plant on Tuesday evening. The strike, which had involved 1,400 hourly workers, was initiated in response to the expiration of the workers’ contract on October 31.
The Wednesday morning UAW and DD negotiators reached a tentative labor agreement. UAW called upon workers to resume their hours from yesterday’s second shift and subsequently work on their regularly scheduled hours.
“This was a long, hard round of bargaining, but it’s produced a tentative agreement that will keep good jobs at Detroit Diesel’s Redford, MI plant,” stated UAW Region 1A director Jimmy Settles.
UAW and Detroit Diesel declined to discuss details on the tentative agreement pending a ratification vote by UAW Local 163 members.
