Regional tire evolves

The next generation of the popular XZE all-position tire for regional hauling and vocational applications will deliver up to 15% more overall tread life

ORLANDO, FL. The next generation of the popular XZE all-position tire for regional hauling and vocational applications will deliver up to 15% more overall tread life, according to Chris Tolbert, marketing product segment manager for Michelin Americas Truck Tires.

Dubbed the XZE2, the new tire will be released in seven "core" 22.5- and 24.5-in. sizes on March 1, with a low-profile 24.5-in. size following on April 1, Tolbert said, introducing the new tire at the annual meeting of the Technnology & Maintenance Council (TMC).

In addition to extended tread life, the new XZE2 features Michelin’s Matrix siping technology and optimized tire profile to resist irregular wear, a 6% wider tread area for improved vehicle stability and a 5% reduction in rolling resistance for better fuel economy, according to Tolbert.

The casing, cord and belts are unchanged from the original XZE, which has been one of Michelin’s best selling and performing truck tires, he added.
