As part of an executive restructuring at the automotive component manufacture ArvinMeritor Inc., the long-time president of its Commercial Vehicle Systems business Tom Gosnell is retiring effective Sept. 1. Gosnel, who also holds the corporate title of senior vp, will be replaced by Carsten Reinhardt, who has been serving as president & CEO of Detroit Diesel Corp., the North American engine manufacturing arm of Freightliner LLC.

Other moves announced yesterday by ArvinMeritor include naming Philip R. Marten senior vp & president of Light Vehicle systems and H.S. “Buddy” Wacaser senior vp & president of the company’s Emissions Technology Group.

Gosnell has been associated with ArvinMeritor’s heavy-duty component business in various management roles for 27 years, going back to the company’s roots as part of the Rockwell Corp. He will remain with the company as a consultant, according to ArvinMeritor.

As the new component vehicle system head, Reinhardt will be responsible for strategic management of the group’s global operations including both OE production and aftermarket. He had held a number of positions at Freightliner and its parent company DaimlerChrysler Corp. before being appointed to head DDC in 2003. At DetroitDiesel, he was responsible for overseeing the major renovation of the company’s Michigan plant and the transition to building the new generation of Mercedes diesel engines.
