Nextel Communications' Direct Connect push-to-talk voice service is now available between the U.S. and Canada, Brazil, Argentina and Peru under a new partnership agreement with NII Holdings and TELUS Mobility. Nextel Communications' Direct Connect push-to-talk voice service is now available between the U.S. and Canada, Brazil, Argentina and Peru under a new partnership agreement with NII Holdings and TELUS Mobility. Mexico will be added to the international service later this summer.

Subscribers to the international service will be able to instantly talk to other users in any of these coverage areas. The company says more than 90% of its U.S. customers have already enabled nationwide Direct Connect walkie-talkie service.

Nextel U.S. subscribers traveling in these countries can also use their data services, including Blackberry and mobile email, two-way messaging and wireless Internet access, according to the company.
