Boulder City, NV-based Amerityre Corp. has announced it is getting encouraging results from testing of a new polyurethane retread material for truck tires that doesn’t need pressure or high heat Vulcanization to stick to truck tire casings.

Amerityre’s retreading process involves applying a polyurethane elastomer tread compound to the rubber tire casing that “seamlessly locks” to the tire casing. In addition to laboratory testing, the company is conducting field tests on mining trucks, said Richard Steinke, Amerityre’s president & CEO.

“The retreads have been evaluated for about two months and the initial feedback is very positive,” he noted. “We will continue to test these tires to better assess their performance characteristics in application, but we are also using the feedback to define the full range of applications our retreading technology might address.”

Steinke added that the polyurethane compounds meet adhesion requirements acceptable to the retread industry in both accelerated heat aging and ozone testing, plus show excellent adhesion to rubber. “All of these factors indicate that our retread manufacturing process will be very competitive in the retread industry,” he noted. “At this point, we believe it can extend to the full-size over-the-road market.”
