    Chicago mayor stops road program
    Nov. 22, 2004

Chicago’s Mayor Richard Daley is suspending the city’s street resurfacing program due to the extent of corruption in the construction programs, the Associated Press has reported.

The work will be sent to private contractors for bidding, and plans for evaluating all of the city’s construction programs have been set in motion, Daley said.

The announcement was made on Saturday after the tenth person was charged in a federal investigation of Chicago’s Hired Truck Program— a program that outsourced hauling work to private firms, AP said.
