Refrigerated freight carrier Arctic Express has signed an agreement with truckstop electrification systems provider IdleAire Technologies to receive a 15% discount on hourly rates and enable the fleet’s fuel card to be used to pay for basic IdleAire services.
“APUs (auxiliary power units) are too expensive from our perspective and they add weight to our trucks which we need for product,” said Arctic Express president Richard Durst. “IdleAire’s driver benefits are unique among idling alternatives, and drivers tell me this is a benefit they want me to provide. When IdleAire recently announced their upcoming deployment at 70 sites, and their financing plan for it, we decided to get on board.”
“IdleAire has signed over 1,000 fleets now, and Arctic Express is one of that growing number that are recognizing that IdleAire isn’t just an idling alternative—it’s a new, very effective retention, recruitment and training tool in an increasingly competitive recruiting environment,” said IdleAire COO David Everhart.
The electrification system allows drivers to shut off their engines by providing a special hookup to the cab that contains electrical outlets, filtered central air and heat, a computer with computer and email access, and satellite television.
