Drivers of heavy vehicles won't have to crawl under their trucks to check brake-stroke status during pretrip inspections if their trucks are equipped with MGM Brakes' new e•STROKE electronic brake-adjustment monitor.

Factory preinstalled and precalibrated sensors in the service chambers and spring brakes convert brake actuator shaft travel into an electronic signal. That signal is monitored by a Chassis Communications Module (CCM) that outputs wheel-specific blink codes to reveal whether a brake chamber is experiencing normal stroke, overstroke, or is simply not functioning, or whether a brake is dragging. The CCM can be mounted outside the vehicle, or inside to provide the driver with visual feedback when the brakes are applied.

MGM offers only standalone units at this time, but the system can be integrated into a vehicle's electronics system via J1708 and multiplexing.
