Kenworth previews 2006

LOUISVILLE, KY. Kenworth Truck Company has unveiled the 2006 model-year versions of its T600, T800, W900 and C500 Class 8 trucks here at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

Serviceability and functionality have been improved via the implementation of a multiplexed design to the vehicles’ instrumentation system. This simplifies the wiring behind the dash to further ensure reliability, Kenworth pointed out.

The OEM is also offering a computer-based diagnostic tool for the new instrumentation system.

Kenworth has added 25 new standard features, over half of which were previously available as options. For example, large, 2-in. gauges that are standard with chrome bezels accompany the new speedometer and tachometer cluster. Also now standard are an outside temperature gauge, engine hour meter, odometer and trip odometer.

All vehicles are available in two trim levels: Diamond and Splendor.

According to Kenworth, standard interior lighting is now better than any prior combination of optional lighting, with “more and brighter lights in key areas.” In addition, interior noise has been reduced 20%.

The Bendix ABS-6 Advanced with ESP system will be available as an option on selected Kenworth heavy-duty truck models. The Bendix system is designed to offer superior traction, advanced diagnostic and prognostic capabilities, and easy maintenance. The OEM will also offer the full range of Bendix ABS-6 systems as an option.

Paccar heavy-duty commercial batteries, built for reliable performance, were introduced as standard equipment for new Kenworth heavy- and medium-duty trucks.

A front-engine power take-off is available as an option for Kenworth’s vocational T800 short-hood model.
