Oshkosh Truck Corp. is now offering its lightweight Revolution composite concrete mixer drum in combination with its S-Series front-discharge concrete mixer truck – a package designed to save mixer fleets up to 2,000 pounds vs. using a steel drum with the same chassis, the company said.

“The Revolution composite mixer technology offers concrete producers a serious payload advantage,” said Robert Bohn, Oshkosh’s chairman, president & CEO, during a press conference at the recent World of Concrete show in Las Vegas. “That 2,000 pound weight savings can mean a significant increase in productivity for our customers.”

The weight savings could allow carrying an additional one-half cubic yard of concrete per load. Assuming four loads per day and 250 working days per year, the productivity gain is estimated at $7,500 annually, Bohn said.

First introduced in 2002, more than 1,000 Revolution drums currently are in service in rear discharge fleets, he noted. He said that the composite design of the drum is certified through independent testing conducted by the Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (TMMB).
