International Truck & Engine Corp. has unveiled a new engine aimed at regional truck drivers with annual miles between 60,000 and 65,000 – the HT 530 diesel, designed to deliver torque and responsiveness without the extra weight of comparable big-bore engines, to help increase payload.

Powering the new International 8500 regional-haul tractor, International said its HT 530 high torque diesel engine is designed for applications requiring a high power-to-weight ratio that promises the truck will be up and running when it needs to be. Weighing up to 600 pounds less than alternative engines in the same class, according to the company, the HT 530 replaces weight with strength for increased profit potential. And with extended service intervals, more time will be spent on the road, making money.

International said its HT 530 diesel engine features the all-new Electronic Variable Response Turbocharging (EVRT) system to optimize performance, response and improve fuel economy under all conditions. Improved drivability is achieved with the International HT 530 integrated powertrain design, as International and its suppliers worked together to develop drivetrains specifically matched to International engine power characteristics.

The company added that the HT 530 also offers reduced maintenance costs and extended service intervals, by at least 25 percent. By setting all key preventative maintenance schedules at multiples of 15,000 miles, labor hours and downtime are reduced resulting in increased profitability.
