Toledo, OH-based vehicle component maker Dana Corp. is expanding its partnership with GETRAG GmbH & Cie KG to jointly develop electronically controlled limited-slip differentials and electronic torque couplings for light-truck and passenger-car platforms.

Under terms of the agreement, engineers from Dana and GETRAG will work in the U.S. and Europe to develop advanced torque- transfer products for future use on Dana and GETRAG axles, transaxles, and power-transfer units.

“As demand for all-wheel-drive vehicles grows, so does the need for electronic torque-transfer devices – a key enabling all-wheel-drive technology,” said Michael Burns, Dana’s chairman & CEO. “By bringing together our collective electronic and traction expertise, this collaboration enables Dana and GETRAG to offer a broader range of electronic torque-management devices.”

In 2000, Dana acquired a 30% equity stake in GETRAG GmbH & Cie KG, the parent company of the GETRAG group of companies, and a 49% share of GETRAG's North American operations. In 2004 the two companies bought a 60% share of Volvo Car Corp.’s operations in Koping, Sweden, to form GETRAG All Wheel Drive AB.
