The national average price for a gallon of diesel fell 2.3 cents to $2.476 for the week ending Feb. 12, according to the Energy Information Administration. This marks the end of a three-week trend of rising prices.
All regions posted a decrease, but it was New England that received the biggest relief at the pumps as prices slid 4.2 cents to $2.617. Prices held the steadiest in the Gulf Coast, falling only 1.6 cents to $2.447. The cheapest diesel could be found in the Midwest region, with prices at $2.419 after a 2.6-cent drop. California remained the most expensive region in which to fill up, despite a 3-cent reduction to $2.709.
