Ann Arbor, MI-based Con-Way Transportation Services continues to expand its LTL network despite the drag of higher diesel fuel prices.

A subsidiary of San Mateo, CA-based CNF Inc., Con-Way opened new service centers in West Fargo, ND, and Bedford, PA, to replace smaller facilities this month and in October. This added 41 new dock doors for greater freight capacity.

In Woodinville, WA, Con-Way said it opened a new 31-door service center this month to handle business growth in Seattle and surrounding markets. The LTL carrier now has four service centers in the Seattle, Tacoma and Mount Vernon markets.

The carrier also added 50 new doors to its Buffalo, NY, market by moving into a larger facility in nearby Tonawanda last month. And in Newark, NJ, Con-Way purchased property located next to New Jersey's ocean port, Port Elizabeth and less than a mile from the Newark Airport to further expand its facility there. It is located next to a deep-water port, airport, and major 4-lane ground routes including the New Jersey Turnpike and Interstates 95 and 78.

“We are continually expanding the brick and mortar side of the business by adding more dock doors via new or expanded facilities,” said David McClimon, president of Con-Way. “And more dock doors mean increased freight handling capacity and that's what our customers want and what we need to successfully manage our growth.”
