Shell says that its Rotella-T Multigrade 15W-40 engine oil, with advanced soot control formulation, meets the performance requirements of new low-emission heavy-duty diesel truck engines scheduled for introduction in 2002.

Shell says its Westhollow Technology Center, operated by Equilon Enterprises, tested the Rotella-T engine oil and found that it meets the American Petroleum Institute's requirements — called Proposed Category 9 — for low-emission engines that use exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology.

New low-emission diesel engines, designed to reduce air pollution, are scheduled to come to market by October 2002. Shell says its Rotella-T soot reduction oil will be available by mid-2002.
