Transportation Technical Services (TTS) has released the 2001 edition of its National Motor Carrier Directory, which lists 27,000 individual trucking companies that operate in the United States. To qualify for inclusion in the directory, motor carriers must file an annual report with DOT or state PUC, and respond to a four-page mail survey or answer the survey questions by phone.

Each carrier profile in the directory includes CEO name and title, headquarters address, motor carrier and DOT number, Standard Carrier Alpha Code and revenues, plus the specific number of trucks, trailers and tractors owned or leased by the company. Types of commodities hauled by each carrier are also described.
