Accident Prevention Plus, a software maker based in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, has sealed a deal with the Carnegie Mellon Driver Training Safety Institute to monitor and evaluate truck drivers at Stoughton Trucking Co.

Drivers trained at Connellsville, PA-based Carnegie Mellon and hired by Stoughton Trucking will use Accident Prevention’s software to monitor how those drivers control their vehicles as well as reduce fuel consumption. Accident Prevention said carriers that have used its software to gather driver data have been able to reduce fleet fuel consumption by up to 25%.

"As a small trucking company with 150 drivers our goal is to constantly improve safety while enhancing profitability," said Gary Schumann, president of Stoughton, WI-based Stoughton Trucking. "Having the ability to select drivers that have been trained by Carnegie Mellon and tracked by software will allow our company to save on fuel, be assured a higher quality operator for our vehicles and enhance our bottom line."

Accident Prevention added that the market for such driver monitoring and evaluation technology is worth approximately $375 million in the United States alone.
