Peterbilt Motors Co. calls its new Model 379X, a “special edition vehicle sure to turn heads.” The driver-oriented truck boasts polished aluminum fenders, a Pete oval-pattern grille, a polished aluminum centerline hood accent and brushed aluminum dash and sleeper trim.

Exterior features include 7-in. chromed exhaust stacks, chromed “Texas-style” bumper, LED auxiliary lighting, and extended stainless steel sun visor. The interior boasts a 70-in. Unibilt UltraCab, brushed aluminum cab and sleeper trim, a four-spoke, “X-style” steering wheel and custom leather UltraRide seats. The Model 379X begins production in September.

    Other news from Pete includes:

    • The medium-duty Model 330 can be converted to a four-door crew cab through a new program offered by Bentz Transport Products. The conversion seats five and provides a 61-in. interior height throughout the cab.

    • According to the OEM, its new Low Air leaf suspension is the lightest standard-duty tandem air suspension available. Offered on all Petes, it is 325 lb. lighter than the previous version and provides a 40,000-lb. load rating.

    • Low-maintenance system (LMS) aluminum hubs are now standard on steer and drive axles on heavy-duty models. The hubs extend service intervals by four times and come with a three-year/350-000-mile warranty.

    • Pete is now optionally offering the Eaton Fuller UltraShift automated 10-speed transmission on over-the-road models. The UltraShift is a two-pedal design, meaning it operates without a clutch pedal.

    • Now standard on Models 379 and 387 is a new outside LED air-temperature gauge integrated into the driver-side mirror.

    • Starting in the 4th quarter '03, day cabs will boast a new larger rear window as standard as well as optional rear corner windows to increase visibility.

    • The Vantage level interior, aimed at vocational buyers, has been upgraded with new materials and an improved design.

    • Two new TruckCare cards are being offered to fleets: The TruckCare Plus and TruckCare Plus MasterCard.

    • A new '03 color selector guide of nearly 300 exterior colors that reflect customer requests and automotive trends and were selected on ability to provide a durable quality finish.
