Los Angeles-based G.I. Trucking and Vancouver, British Columbia-based Porter Trucking have teamed up to offer faster cross-border service from the West Coast of the United States to Western Canada, cutting the typical delivery time of four to five days down to one to two days, the carriers said.

The key to such faster transit times, said G.I. Trucking, is shipment pre-clearance through the Canadian Pre-Arrival Review System (PARS). Porter Trucking said its use of PARS facilitates documentation processing and interaction with Canadian customs and border terminals to move goods into Canada more quickly.

On an annual basis, G.I. Trucking and Porter Trucking report they have been handling about 4,500 shipments from the U.S. into Western Canada.

Porter Trucking Ltd., which began operations in 1963, is a general-merchandise transportation company that operates terminals throughout Western Canada including Vancouver, Kelowna, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg. It also has U.S-based terminals in Seattle and in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

G.I. Trucking provides direct less-than-truckload services to 13 Western and Midwestern states from 55 terminals.
