The Windows-based OpCenter fleet management system from XATA Corp. has added two-way communications to its onboard hardware. The new wireless option operates over the Orbcomm low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite network. A new “micro-display” onboard unit has also been introduced for fleets adding the communications option to OpCenter's automated drivers logs and other functions.

The company's hosted web-based fleet management system, XATANET 2.0, has also begun shipping, according to XATA CEO Craig Fawcett. Designed for small to medium-size fleets, the system offers a menu of services on a per-vehicle subscription basis. Those services include automated fuel tax reporting, asset tracking, diagnostic warnings, messaging, and automated DOT logs. XATANET also uses Orbcomm's LEO network for wireless communications.
