ATA lauds Wal-Mart fleet safety director

The American Trucking Assns. (ATA) has named Rick Foster, director of fleet safety for Wal-Mart Transportation LLC, the 2005 ATA Safety Director of the Year.

Foster is responsible for the safety and regulatory compliance of more than 11,000 fleet associates, including 7,904 drivers. Foster utilizes a variety of incentive programs including an annual defensive driving program, milestone awards, a truck give-away, team awards, office Halls of Fame, and safety bonuses to promote safe driving.

“We’re proud of our professionals like Rick Foster,” ATA president & CEO Bill Graves said. “They set the example for how the trucking industry can lead the way in making the workplace and the highway safe for everyone.”

Foster was honored at the ATA Safety and Loss Prevention Management Council’s National Conference and Exhibition in Miami, FL, from Oct. 3-5.
