APL Logistics has established operations in Venezuela through a joint venture with Grupo Hersan, a Venezuelan logistics provider.

Known as APLL/Hersan de Venezuela, C.A., the new venture is APL Logistics' fourth Latin American expansion in 2002. Earlier this year, APL opened or expanded operations in Chile, Guatemala and Honduras.

The Venezuela operation provides such supply-chain services as warehousing, container-yard management, transportation, and cross-border logistics, including customs brokerage services.

It operates in four Venezuelan cities: Puerto Cabello, Cagua, Moron, and Barquisimeto. Fabio Duque, who formerly managed APLL's operations in Chile, is the general manager, situated in the Cagua facility.

"We are pleased to be moving forward in our initiative to be one of Latin America's strongest logistics providers by entering the promising Venezuela market," said Luis Perez, APL Logistics' vp for Latin America.
