Dublin, Ireland-based FreightWatch International Group will open its U.S. headquarters, FreightWatch International Inc., in Austin, Tex. March 7.

Freightwatch, the only European company to have full membership in the United States National Cargo Security Council, provides a core of three services to the transportation logistic and distribution centers, including risk management escort services, customer risk profiles, and outsourced security services.

"We chose to make Austin our U.S. headquarters because of the close proximity to one of our major global clients and because of the potential that Austin's large business community offers," said company spokesman Mike Browne. "At a time when some large Austin companies are downsizing, we believe our arrival will have a positive effect on the local economy."

The company's client base includes, Pfizer, Maxtor, HP Europe, 3-Com Europe, UPS Europe Mitsubishi Europe and DHL.
