The new OmniTRACS hours-of-service (HOS) application now complies with revisions to the driver work rules that took effect on Oct. 1. Making the announcement at the American Trucking Assns. annual meeting in Boston, Qualcomm officials said their automated driver’s log feature not only complies with the latest HOS regulations, but also increases driver and dispatcher efficiency.
The Qualcomm HOS application automatically detects driving time through vehicle sensors, reducing driver interaction and improving data accuracy, the company said. If it detects an impending HOS violation, it can notify both the driver and the fleet in near real-time, helping drivers and fleets avoid HOS-related fines.
As a web-based software service, the automated log system allows dispatchers and other authorized users to quickly review driver status or to generate HOS reports for safety audits and other uses from a standard web browser.
The new OmniTRACS system meets the U.S. Dept. of Transportation regulations governing the use of electronic onboard recorders to maintain HOS logs, according to Qualcomm.
