LTL carrier Old Dominion Freight Line plans to install Anaheim, CA-based Iteris’ lane departure warning (LDW) system in 1,200 tractors of its existing fleet of over 4,400 units, with plans to make LDW part of its standard specification on all new truck purchases in the future.

“Installing the lane departure warning system in our fleet of trucks gives us the ability to be proactive instead of reactive,” said Brian Stoddard, vp of safety and personnel for Old Dominion. “With safety remaining a top priority for our company, we are confident the decision to install this technology will prove to be an effective means of preventing accidents.”

He added that Old Dominion plans to begin adding Iteris’ LDW system to its pre-selected 1,200 trucks starting this August and expects them to be fully outfitted within six months.

Stoddard noted that Old Dominion decided to make Iteris’ LDW technology standard on its trucks after testing five units over the course of two years and receiving “extremely positive” feedback on the system from its truck drivers.
