The average U.S. price per gallon for diesel has reached its highest point since the week after Independence Day, the Dept. of Energy said yesterday. The department’s Energy Information Administration reported a national average of $1.394, which is up 4.9 cents from two weeks ago and was the lowest reported average of 2001.
In California, where the price at the pump is the highest, the price passed the $1.50 mark for the first time since July 23. The $1.518 reported price was 3.4 cents higher than the previous week.
The lowest prices were reported in the Gulf Coast ($1.340) and Lower Atlantic ($1.343) regions. Prices were under the national average in the East Coast and Rocky Mountain regions as well.
