Four International DuraStar hybrid trucks have joined the Red Bull delivery fleet, distributing the company's energy drinks in the Las Vegas area. The diesel electric hybrids are expected to improve fuel economy by 30 to 40% on the fleet's delivery routes while also cutting emissions by over one-third, according to Navistar International Corp.

The International DuraStar hybrids use a regenerative braking system to capture energy when a truck's brakes are applied and lithium ion batteries to store that energy, making them well suited for pickup and delivery applications.

The four new Red Bull trucks will operate out of the company's Southern Nevada Distribution Center and serve the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

Red Bull's annual fuel savings with the hybrid power system is estimated at approximately $4,000 per truck, according to Navistar.

The company started building hybrid diesel electric trucks on its regular production line last November. The DuraStar is offered in GVWs ranging from 20,200 to 37,000 lbs. In addition to the 340V hybrid drive system, powertrain specs include an International DT diesel rated at 225 hp. and an Eaton Fuller 6-spd. UltraShift automated mechanical transmission.
