The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced the first meeting of the Board of Directors for the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) plan will take place June 13 at the Ross Bridge Resort in Birmingham, AL.
The UCR Agreement will govern the collection and distribution of registration and financial responsibility information and fees paid by for-hire and private motor carriers, brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies.
It will replace the current Single State Registration System (SSRS), a state-administered registration program that ensures all interstate for-hire motor carriers maintain sufficient public liability insurance coverage to operate. The UCR program will lower fees for-hire carriers incur while maintaining revenue streams for participating states by spreading the cost among a broader population of registrations to include private fleets, brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies.
Under the UCR Agreement, the USDOT number will be the sole federal identification number for all motor carriers. UCR will replace SSRS by a SAFETEA-LU mandate.
