"Extended oil drains can be applied to EGR engines, but it requires fleets to start from scratch," David Taber, technical coordinator for ConocoPhillips, maker of the 76 Lubricants and Kendall Motor Oil brands, told Fleet Owner.

"It really depends on the ability of a fleet to pull its trucks in for service to analyze the engine oil," he said. "That's because oil analysis is the key to helping fleets determine how the oil is holding up in the EGR engine and whether they can extend their drain intervals."

Taber said fleets must first follow the OEM's recommended oil drain interval for their particular EGR engine make and model.
