A ruptured dump truck fuel tank caused a five-mile road slick on I-45 in South Dallas, causing five cars to crash when they hit the slippery highway Friday, according to the Dallas Morning News. No one was injured in the accidents.
The truck driver said he hit some scrap metal that had fallen off another truck on I-45 near I-30. The metal punctured the rig’s fuel tank, causing it to leak fuel over a five-mile stretch of highway before the trucker could find a safe place to pull over.
“It was almost a perfect puncture,” said Joel Lavender, a spokesman for Dallas-Fire Rescue. “It hit the exact right place on the tank that caused the spill.”
Hazardous materials crews had to be called in to clean up the spill.
