Danny Smith, a driver for Big G Express, has been named “Driver of the Year,” the highest honor given to a professional driver by the Tennessee Trucking Assn.
He will next compete for the American Trucking Assn.’s “Driver of the Year” award, which will be presented in August at the National Truck Driving Championship in Salt Lake City.
Smith was the first driver hired in 1995 when Jack Marsh started Big G Express with just six trucks. He has driven almost 2.7-million accident-free miles during the 18 years he has worked at the company. And he has never had an accident in the 33 years he has been in the transportation industry, according to a news report posted by the Shelbyville Times-Gazette.
"Danny takes pride in his profession and is a shining example of how to do things right,” said Big G Express president Randy Vernon. “He is the epitome of professionalism when it comes to representing his company and the trucking industry.”
"The Tennessee Trucking Association is proud to honor Danny Smith from Big G Express as our 2013 Driver of the Year," said Dave Huneryager, CEO of the association. "His outstanding accomplishments made him the obvious selection this year. We commend Big G for nominating Danny, a true credit to his profession."
Smith was also recently selected as a Tennessee Road Team Captain. Road Team Captains are available for speaking engagements and educational events throughout the state.
