President Donald Trump directed Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to also act as interim administrator of the nation’s space administration, NASA.
Trump and Duffy broke the news on social media Wednesday afternoon. The administration has not yet provided further details of the arrangement or its timeline.
“He will be a fantastic leader of the ever more important Space Agency, even if only for a short period of time,” Trump said on social media. “Congratulations, and thank you, Sean!”
Duffy would replace NASA’s current acting administrator, Janet Petro.
"Honored to accept this mission,” Duffy said on social media. Time to take over space. Let’s launch."
The development adds another major organization to Duffy’s responsibilities, potentially distancing the secretary from upkeep of more trucking-intensive agencies like FMCSA.
