Trucking spot rates flatten after recent surge, reports FTR and DAT

The average spot rates for all three major equipment types softened last week, compared to the previous week. Volumes declined across the board.

Average spot rates flattened last week after an exciting spot market the previous week,  according to weekly reports from FTR Transportation Intelligence and DAT Freight & Analytics.

According to FTR, total broker-posted spot rates decreased a little over 1 cent. Rates were roughly 1% higher than last year.

Here are how rates and volumes changed across the three major spot market equipment types:

Dry van rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates fell more than 4 cents. Year over year, rates were basically flat, just 0.1 higher than the same week in 2024. Dry van loads fell 11.5% but were up nearly 2% compared to last year.

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates remained unchanged last week, averaging $1.70 per mile. This rate is $0.06 higher than last year.

Refrigerated rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates increased more than 2 cents. Rates were about 4.5% higher than last year. Refrigerated loads decreased 4.6%, with volumes nearly 4% lower than last year.

According to DAT: The national 7-day rolling average for spot rates increased a little under 2 cents week over week, reaching $2.07. This rate is 10 cents higher than last year.

Flatbed rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates fell by 1 cent. Year over year, rates remained up 0.4%. Flatbed loads declined 1.7% but are 27% higher compared to last year.

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates rose by 1 cent, averaging $2.07 per mile. This rate is 10 cents higher than last year.
